The Opelika-Auburn Newcomers Club was founded in 2001. The purpose of the organization is to provide a variety of programs for the betterment of the Opelika/Auburn community that will assist women transitioning into the Opelika/Auburn area or help Opelika/Auburn women adjust to recent lifestyle changes. The group meets on the third Thursday of each month at different restaurants in the area. In addition to the monthly luncheon, there are several interest groups including the following: Bunco, Bridge, Bridge 101, Book Club, Let's Explore and Dining Out. The Let's Explore group visits local sites of interest as well as travels to nearby sites such as Desoto Caverns in Childersburg, the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, the Eufaula Pilgrimage, Scott's Antiques in Atlanta, and the Southern Living Idea House in Senoia, Ga. Members can invite friends to come along on the Let's Explore outings. The Dining Out group has dinner in various restaurants in the Opelika/Auburn area usually monthly and this is when spouses, significant others or friends are invited to join in the fun. Newcomers Club is a great way to make friends and join in fun activities. The group has 90 or so members currently and continues to grow. Members are friendly and welcoming.
